The reason and need to change Rhodes piano damper felts is one of necessity not choice. Due to age the Rhodes damper felts break down and weaken. They flop over and become structurally incompetent at doing their job. Case in point is a note that does not dampen properly even after damper arm adjustment has been made. Again, to see how old an malformed your felts really are just lift the harp and take a look as well as feel the felt and you will see they do not feel fresh. A proper good felt should stand up with semi rigidness on it's own. it should be able to absorb the swing of a large tine in motion.
